Start Writing Character First In A Screenplay by Mark Gantt
Film Courage: Since you’re an actor, when you start writing a story are you automatically starting with character? Are you starting with theme?
Mark Gantt, Actor/Producer/Writer/Director: For the most part it’s character and that’s what gets me. I’m looking for people. That is what I connect with.
There was a story that someone was interested in and trying to fit some characters into this story and it was reading false to me because I wasn’t believing these characters. I wasn’t believing who these people were.
Starting for me as an actor I feel like I’m moving away from acting being my main thing that I’m doing as much as writing/directing feels like there is more creative freedom in what I love to do (to tell stories).
