Film Courage: Adam, you had a goal to make a movie before a certain age?

Adam Davis, Filmmaker: Yes. I’ve been trying to be a filmmaker since I was 17, in earnest it was like This is what I’m going to do. I always thought I was going to be like Robert Rodriguez, he was my idol…young gun, doing his feature by age 23, I was like That’s going to be me. I definitely have that talent.

Then 23 came, then 23 went and I hadn’t done it. I was like Okay maybe I’m not like Robert Rodriguez. Maybe I’m more like…I don’t know? Quentin Tarantino. He did his first feature by age 27.

27 comes, 27 goes. I was sort of devastated because I was working on a lot of projects and doing a lot of shorts but I hadn’t gotten it done and it hit me when I turned 30, it was like that’s a big milestone. Your body starts changing, you get weird aches in your knees or whatever…it just happens at 30.

Film Courage: Try age 40.

Adam: [Laughs] I was like I have to do this, I’m 30. I wanted to do this by at least 30. How do I do it before I become age 31?…(Watch the video interview on Youtube here).
